!!HAPPY牛YEAR!!
A new year a new beginning...
This year, I celebrated Chinese New Year at my grandmother's house in Kedah, Malaysia with my grandparents, parents, brother, uncle, aunts and cousins, practically the whole of my paternal family. A 12hour-long coach is our transport. By the way, I took the picture of the cow on the way there. After that, I totally forgot to take any more pictures: P. We took an overnight coach at 7.30pm and reached at about 8am. Upon reaching, we had a traditional Malaysian breakfast of Penang Hokkien Mee and Char Kway Teow, Wanton noodles and Curry Mee etc, etc...(Maybe not so traditional) Then we went "shopping" at the local Pasar and bought RM200 worth of firecrackers. We also bought some snacks on the way such as apong and fried banana. Then we went to do some proper shopping.
We went to The Store which is about 300m away from our house. We did not buy much, only some stationery there. The price is about half of Singapore's. E.g. I bought 3 faber-castel erasers for RM1.80.( I don't use erasers much, but I figured that I could keep it and use it when needed) Then, I went to a shop and bought a sega game for my cousins. (Guess you know what kind of CD is that). Then we went home and tried out the game. We played for 3hours straight. (With me owning of course)Then it was time to fetch our one-and-a-half-year-old-cousin. He could walk and say simple things such as mama, papa, etc. He really is cute. The two storey terrace was really filled with fun.(and people) Let me simply list out our names(excluding adults): Jing Xiang, Jing Yang, Jing Xin, Jing Wen, Jing Xuan, Jing Tong, Jing Bing. Yes, that is the number of non-adults in the house, with 5 of us crowding around the one and only computer. We played pop-pop in the day, making a big mess in the yard. At night, the big bombs were here: dinosaur eggs. After lighting the fuse with a joystick, you have to throw it out quickly and it will explode beautifully. We threw them into the drain and the loud echoes would come out. Then, we took a can and filled it up with many pop-pops and dinosaur eggs until it was two-third full. Next we lit a dinosaur egg and threw it in and ran. It exploded for about 10seconds. We saw the remains-an empty can with a big hole! Of course, we also played with the most basic "fairy-wand"(I am not sure about the name). We lined them up into a long track and put dinosaur eggs along the way. The whole thing ended in 2 minutes. We could see the wands burning and then suddenly, a dinosaur egg exploded. The day ended off with us viewing a spectacular scene of fireworks put up by the house-next-door. Then, I slept like a log until 10am the next day.
Day two:
The events in the morning and afternoon are about the same, so I will just list what happened in the evening. We had a scrumptious meal of reunion dinner of steamboat with abalones and shark fins and beers (for the adults). Then it is explosive time.
Introducing...*drumroll*
UFO crackers: a dynamite thing is stuck to a propeller. I lit it; it rose to the air swiftly and emitted explosive light around it: a beautiful sight. Then, it is time for "moon rider"(月旅行) to shine. We placed them into cans and lit it. It flew up with blinding speed and exploded with a loud sound. Next, the unknown but deadly cracker which we call "deaf (death) cracker" It was supposed to be placed on the ground, and then lighted. It emitted beautiful and silent mini fireworks, then at the end, BOOM!!! It exploded. At that moment, I was not able to hear a thing. Yes, it was that loud. After a minute or so, my hearing finally recovered. I was standing about three metres from it... Next up, cone cracker. It is something like the deaf cracker and is shaped like a cone. We lit it and everyone covered our ears, having learnt our lesson. It emitted beautiful mini fireworks just like deaf cracker. But alas, there was no explosion. A beautiful sight indeed. Then, we tried bumble bee. After lighting it, it flew up with a buzzing sound, emitting light on the way. Finally, there was a spinning top cracker. After placing it on the ground and lighting it. It would spin with such force that it would jump a little, and then explode. Then, bedtime...
Last day in Malaysia, the morning and afternoon were wasted away like yesterday and the day before. It was time to leave. At the coach terminal, my baby cousin was behaving badly, running around and even trying to run onto the road. We decided to encircle him to control him. He tried every way to get out, but he failed. Then, he sat down and cried, everyone laughed as he was so cute. Once, he even tried crawling out through the railings which is about twenty centimetres from the ground!
Then, the long journey back home in the coach and I began writing this post at 7am. Goodbye to Malaysia and goodbye to my blog (this is the last entry).
